The finest reference on Aalto's furniture. Scarce in fine condition.

Aalto's architectural masterpieces are public institutions, standard housing, and private abodes. But it’s his furniture that truly sings—a harmonious blend of form and function. He wove magic with bentwood, veneered ply, and sheet metal.

Highlights include Stool 60, its three legs curving like the sinuous branches of a birch tree. Or the Armchair 44, cradling you in its curvy embrace. His Tea Trolley 900 glides effortlessly, a mobile oasis for your afternoon rituals. The Armchair 39 and Table 915 invites relaxation.

179 printed pages with nearly 300 illustrations, many in full colour, detailing Aalto's furniture from his first known work to the recent bentwood variations by Artek Studio. Aalto's sketches are beautifully reproduced on translucent tracing paper.

Pristine copy. Minimal evidence of removed sticker on back cover corner. Fine condition.

Juhani Pallasmaa edits the book and provides the preface. Igor Herler, Göran Schildt, Marja-Liisa Parko each contribute essays on early furniture, interior designs, Aalto's relationship with Artek, and methods of production. Elissa Aalto, Aalto's wife and Marja-Riitta Norri provide an essay on the links between his interior designs and furniture. Includes Aalto's statement for an exhibition of his work in 1954; excerpts from Aalto's articles; chronology; selection of Artek's standard models; and built-in furniture in Aalto's architecture.

Published by the Museum of Finnish Architecture, the Finnish Society of Crafts and Design, and Artek in 1984.
